George Mason definitely has swings.

13:06 again. Depending on her age, I may have a couple of suggestions for you. They are smaller pocket parks and are age dependent.

OP, how old is your DD?

I say let her have her meltdowns. She will get over it. After a few of them she will get tired of having them without getting the prize in the end.

No swings at Barcroft.

My DD loves the swings too, but yes, you can limit them. Exercise is also in getting to/from the park. We'll chase each other across the field towards the play area, for example. Or, bring a container of bubbles and have her chase them. ALL the other kids will want to participate too, which might get her interest.

I think it's better to set a time limit on the swings. You may have a meltdown for the next few playground trips, but in the end you will be much happier if you can go to the playgrounds close by. Tell her how many minutes (say 10) and then count down the minutes. You can also use a timer if your phone has one and pick a funny alarm. The ability to set a time limit will be useful for lots of situations.

Thanks, PPs. That is very helpful.

7:31, I used to think as you did. Our neighborhood playground has swings and we have been going for months and months. The swings never get old for her, and she never plays on anything else enough to realize it can be fun too.

If we go places where she doesn't have the option, she can actually see what she's missing.

FYI - The Burke Lake playground doesn't seem to have swings, but it's far out.

Maybe the reviews here can help. You can look at all the playgrounds with swings and maybe figure out which ones don't.

We frequent several playgrounds in nova and they all have swings. Smaller ones are less busy than big ones. She'll eventually get over the swing obsession if you let her play with them enough.

DD (2) loves to be on the swings, but when we go to playgrounds with swings, she gets no exercise, and we are stuck pushing her the whole time. Meltdowns ensue when someone else needs the swing. Does anyone know of some fun playgrounds in Fairfax/Falls Church/Arlington that don't have swings? Trying to get in some outdoor time before this storm hits later today. Thanks!
