Sounds off the wall, but I would have Tarte Flambee and a good Alsatian Riesling. And I would eat it in a wonderful restaurant in the Vogses, in Alsace Lorraine. Best meal I ever had. Yes, I had a year in France and it stayed with me.

All homemade food - I've finally turned into my mom (and I'm not even 40!) and prefer home cooked food. I'd want cheesy dishes - my mom's eggplant parmesan, green chile macaroni and cheese, grilled veggie lasagna, red chile enchiladas - yum, yum!

Awww, me too. I'd like to think we'll meet in heaven but I doubt she's waiting up there to "spend all day to cook a fabulous meal just to watch us snarf it down in a matter of minutes!!!"

If Mom's too tired to cook, though, I'd happilly settle for DH grilling a burger in the backyard and some fresh-picked corn; for dessert, strawberry shortcake. Can we sit on the screened porch one last time? \

A whole platter of french things to be eaten with amazing bread and cornishons. The best pates (pork, rabbit, goose, duck), the best cheeses (I'm a fan of the stinky cream ones, banon being the ultimate), and maybe a little pot of mussels on the side. But really, the main event is the pate, cheese and bread.

FWIW, the closest I've come in DC is Montmartre at Eastern Market. I don't think I've ever had any cheeses there, but the mussels and pate are solid.

If it were my last meal, I would definitely include lobster, mussels, the best sushi money can buy, really good bread, a great cheese course and a few things I've never tried-foie gras, truffles, really good caviar. What about you?
