The communities fronting the backside of Assateague Island are super quiet - hardly anybody knows about them except for crabbers and vacation and retirement home owners. The back bay is VERY shallow amd marshy, suitable for kayaking canoeing and flatwater boats. A big plus is proximity to the state park and national park entrance to Assateague, which is the naturey island 13 miles long with no private development and wild ponies. From my memory there are not a lot of restaurants or stores near there. Ocean City is a 10 minute drive away, and Berlin MD where they filmed "Runaway Bride" is 9 miles NW. Nearby Frontierland is a campground and waterpark. I don't know anyone who has been there. (I smell RVs and rednecks? Not that there is anything wrong with that!)
But it could be super fun with kids. If you like quiet and don't mind being a little off the beaten track that might be really nice. It is probably buggy due to the marshes. If you go to Ocean City for the boardwalk and restaurants you might have to get creative with parking. There are public lots or you could try using the lot for your restaurant or Seacrets, if you are just doing a few hours.
