New poster here. I also had fibroids removed and had sucessful pregnancy. The surgery was a required to get accepted into shared risk IVF treatment. I want to add that my MRI and transv was not painful.

Myomectomy is the procedure for removing the fibroids while leaving the uterus, however, it is apparently as invasive as the full hysterectomy, so they only do it when you want to preserve fertility.

I got excellent care from Dr. Constance Bohon. She was in Gaithersburg when I first started seeing her, then she moved to DC. I followed her. Back in 1999, I had/have fibroids and they were cause me great pain/extremely heaving bleeding. I had an abdominal ultrasound for them. Dr. Bohon recommended a myomectomy since the procedure would remove the fibroids and preserve the uterus for childbearing. I was hesitant about having surgery but it was the best decision for me. After the surgery my periods were a painless/shorter. I had a baby in 2007. I hear there are more options now. Luckily my surgery seems to have fixed my fibroid problem.

Dr. Isabelle Greene at Hopkins ordered an MRI for my fibroids. She is amazing. It is worth driving to Baltimore to see her.

Hi everyone, OP here. Thank you for writing. I'm glad to hear that I might be able to avoid having the transvag ultrasound, but I agree 17:32, that likely it'll be tough to get insurance coverage. Well, at this point I need to find a caring practitioner (e.g., Gyn) who might work with me, such as prescribing the ultrasound. If any of you, or new posters, have doctor recommendations, I'd appreciate that as well.

I had all 3 done before my UFE procedure. The MRI provided the clearest images by far. It was not painful at all and although it wasn't the most thrilling experience of my life, I am not claustrophobic so it wasn't a big deal for me.

With my fibroids, we've always been able to do the sbdominal ultasound, no problems. Just drink a lot before hand!

I did MRI and Transvag. They were both very unpleasant. Abdominal ultrasound will not give the doctor enough information but they will do one of those too.

I've only had it done transvag. I have to say it didn't feel too good (i.e. pretty painful). I don't have your condition, but I think the tech. was really pushing the wand internally. They got the pics they wanted. I've heard of people doing MRIs, but that may be harder to get your insurance to pay for as transvag is the typical method and surely much cheaper.

I have difficulty with being examined internally (have vaginismus) and am wondering if anyone has had experience with having an ultrasound to check the health of the uterus. I have heard of the transvaginal ultrasound being used, but again, if it could be done using an abdominal ultrasound that would be helpful for someone like me. Thanks ...
