I can't believe someone is suggesting benadryl for a 2 hour flight!

OP - yes, that age is the worst, most difficult time to fly. BUT ... it's only 2 hours. That's nothing! The whole thing will be half a day out of your life.

Seriously! A flight from DC to Orlando, for example, is a little over two hours. I think it's like a 15-18 hour drive. Makes no sense whatsoever to "drive instead"!

Most likely, she has a choice whether or not she goes to Orlando. If someone is trying to force her against her will (like has a gun to her head?) she should go to the police. It's unlikely that is the case, right?

And as a matter of fact, my family has driven to Orlando several times...it's more like 14 hours, not 18.

Maybe her mother in Orlando passed away and she has "no choice" but to attend the funeral.

And check beforehand and see how full the flight is. The flight attendant basically told me I was an idiot for buying a seat to me it was worth every penny.

Just finished a flight with my similar 1.5 year old. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I took my carseat on the plane. It was definitely a hassle, but there was NO way my son could be contained for 2 hours otherwise. Bring lots of snacks and a sippy cup. My son didn't sleep at all (and I kept him up so that he would take a nap). His favorite toy was a slinky from the Target $1 bin. He also liked puffy stickers that he could prep off himself. If all else fails, break out the iPhone.

We had a 5 hour flight from DC to LA with my 2 years old and he did ok it was his firts flight . Lots I books and snack new apps and videos . And if possible flight when is almost nap time so hopefully he will sleep .

I could have written this post one week ago... this past weekend we had a 2 hour flight with the squirmiest baby - he hates to sit on laps. So I was dreading it. But we brought lots of snacks and toys, and walked around a lot when the seatbelt sign was off, and he did surprisingly well! He did squirm - he kept climbing back and forth between my husband and I. BUT, he didn't get mad about being confined the way I thought he would. The most helpful toys were:
Stacking cups, a little birdhouse thing that he could take toys out of and put them back in, and a water bottle. He loved playing with the water bottle!
Good luck - it might not be as bad as you think it will.

My advice, take your carseat on the plane. A wild 14 month old lap baby will get you yelled at by passengers and possibly the crew. Also, take lots of new games/toys. I found that post it pads were great on the plane. I also had a handful of new toys for the trip to keep my kids occupied. The absolute best thing that worked was a portable DVD player though. The longest plane ride they have been on so far has been 2.5 hours and we had very little issues.

Benadryl. Dose him a few days before in case he has a strange reaction, but assuming it has the usual effect (making them extremely drowsy) it's your best bet.

I know this is controversial (druggin your kid? For shame!) but if your kid is truly going to be screaming and miserable for TWO HOURS while strapped into a plane, then that is much more traumatic than that one time mommy used unnecessary medicine. On the off chance that you haven't considered the usual stuff, most kids get by with lots of small toys, books, coloring stuff, vast quantities of snacks, movies, and apps, but it sounds like you probably know all those tricks and don't think they will help your kid.

Getting ready to fly with my 14 month old, and he is ALL OVER THE PLACE! He likes to scream at the top of his lungs, squirms when we hold him, and he doesn't like to sit in one spot for more than a few seconds.

Does anything work, or am I doomed?? We have no choice but to take him with us on a 2 hour flight, so please spare me the less than pleasant comments. If you have any advice, please share!
