I have had the flight delays going in to London recently - I haven't noticed any improvement. Immigration is also an absolute mess at the moment. Plus taxes/fees are higher than Paris, Amsterdam, or Frankfurt.
So I would avoid the UK unless you have a particular reason to go there.

United has a nonstop to Geneva, and that's a good jumping off point for low-key Europe travel

If you'd consider Iceland, Reykjavik is the closest. Very child friendly, in my experience.

I haven't had the landing delay going in to LHR for several years now. Maybe it's the new terminal. Have you experienced the delay recently?

OP an hour one way or the other won't make that much of a difference so I'd focus on where you want to go.

Its been a few years since we've been to Europe and I have the itch to go back. Only hitch, now we have a baby.

Any suggestions for a nice place to go with a baby between 6 months and a year old?
Would like the shortest direct flight from DC area.

TIA.
