Subject: How long does the SEC's hiring process take?
Any updates to this thread? I've applied to the SEC as well and I would like to know what the selection to interview to hiring timeline is like. Do they notify everyone if they were not selected?

Did you interview for a regional position or for a job at headquarters? If it's the latter, you should have gone through the new process regardless of your background or current job. The whole point of the new process is that it is exactly the same for every candidate. I don't know anything about the regional office hiring process though. It's entirely possible that it's different.

It was a very laid back interview? The Division of Enforcement just instituted a new hiring process consisting of a two, hour long panel interviews consisting of structured hypotheticals and a three-hour writing exercise. They are required to ask each candidate all of the same questions and not to deviate from the script. It's anything but laid back. Did you really interview with Enforcement or was it another division and you're trying not to be outted?
Well, that is something that is concerning to me then, because my interview was anything but scripted. The SO had several questions written down, but the overall feel of the interview was very conversational. This was my third federal interview, and it was very unique in the sense that it was not intimidating. My current federal position has very similar responsibilities to the SEC position, so maybe that changed the dynamic of the interview?

PP mentioned regional directors. Maybe the regions are doing something different than DC?

I am on a hiring committee at another SEC division. Be patient, it can take weeks for HR to forward resumes to the division after a position closed.
To the PP with an offer, it can take weeks to get paperwork signed by division senior management and then processed by HR before offer letters are issued. Be patient.

No, it's been almost 2.5 weeks since the position closed, and I haven't heard a thing. How much time passed before you were called for an interview? I have a friend there who told me I would definitely at least get an interview based on my resume, but I'm beginning to wonder.

I just left the SEC and agree with what the PP said. The SEC's HR office is also notoriously slow. Many managers are frustrated that, even with special hiring authority, it takes far longer than it should be bring someone on board - even by government standards.

Even within an agency, the hiring time can vary tremendously. Do they really need to get the Enforcement folks to work, or can the project wait until SEC issues regulations for the new Act that created the need for these positions? Is the hiring manager on vacation or champing at the bit to lower the workload on existing employees? It can vary from office to office.

I applied for one of the SEC Enforcement slots. The posting just closed on Friday, so it's probably really early. I know agencies vary widely in how long ther hiring process takes. Anybody know where SEC falls on the spectrum? Specifically, about how long after a posting closes until they start making decisions about who to interview?
