We make panini-ish sandwiches in our waffle iron. They look awesome!

We have one from Williams Somona (not sure of brand) - but bought as a gift. All it does is paninis and I thought it would be a total waste. It's great though. Still, something that does double-duty - and is dishwasher safe. That would be so much better.

If you are going to do it, I'd do one that does multiple things. My husband got me the Cuisinart ones and the plates and flip over so you can do pancakes or whatever. If space is an issue just get a griddle pan and put something heavy (I use a heavy pot) to squish it down.

My cast iron skillets do double duty. My pannini press is a larger cast iron skillet to put the sandwich into and a smaller one to squish it down. Easy cleanup and less extra equipment to store.

Do you have a george foreman grill? You can make paninis in those, if you have one.

Should I get one that does other things, or that only makes sandwiches? Is it hard to clean? Do you use yours more/less than you anticipated? My sons like grilled sandwiches for lunch, so I am thinking we will use it summers and weekends. Thanks.
