OP, I would be curious too. Family might have given them money. Happened with me before for other situations.

I have a problem with people wanting to assume the worst. Maybe they are self made and it is none of your business, OP.
I know someone that complains about money and cries poor mouth all the time, yet is the first one to blow her money. No sympathy here. At the same time, I know not to share any information with her simply because of her attitude about money.
I also know several posers who try to live large with no pot to piss in.
You may never know the real answer OP, nor is it your business or place to ask.

That said, anyone I know with a second home has paid off their first. But they are few and far between.

OP- they could have family giving them money or worked out an arrangement. It sounds like you are a bit frustrated and I get it. Just try and think about the positives in your life. Who knows what their situation is? Could be living off crazy debt and credit? Not an ideal situation.

I suppose that is possible.They don't seem to be from families that are that rich but I couldn't say that for sure.

Not asking anyone to care what I'm doing. Just wondering how my DH's friend (who does the exact same job as him) is able to afford 2 mortgages. If its so simple, I'd like to find out so I can do the same. Wouldn't mind junking our digs and moving on up. Just like the Jeffersons.

DH's work friend and his wife have the same HHI as us. They have roughly the same financial obligations as us as well. I know this because we've openly chatted about a lot of things from mortgages to student loans to child care. They are underwater on their current home but are looking to move. Their new home budget is astronomical.How they heck can they afford2 mortgages? They are not planning on selling their current home. They will try to rent it but the house rental market in their neighborhood isn't exactly booming.
