You may not like what the OP has to say, but she has a point. New money people are too caught up in houses, jewelry, cars and clothes. Old money people may have those things but at least they have the good sense not to flaunt them, they're not really that impressed by them and are more concerned with the greater community/world around them or things like arts, culture and travel. For an old swamp Yankee who was surrounded by people with Jimmy Choo shoes, Louis Vuitton bags and botoxed lips and foreheads at my child's "new money" school, there's a lot to be said for old money.
best post!
OP here - that is one of the reasons I want to get out of that community. I'm assuming (hoping?) that a school like Sidwell or Sandy Springs up north (too far) would attract a less ostentatious crowd. I'm sure they have their Bill Gates bizillionaires but hopefully they have the discretion to give to the annual fund instead of the Cadillac/Mercedes fund. But what do I know? I'm not part of that community, I just have preconceived notions about it.

Does anyone have any direct experience going from an all boys school to coed such as Sidwell? Is it more or less difficult to get in if you are coming from an all boys school? I really like their progressive and environmental philosophy. Our current school is too businessy new money conservative for my liking. Any advice or insight would be appreciated.
