http://www.payscale.com/best-colleges/degrees.asp (full list)

As you can see, the best undergrad degrees are science, tech, engineering, and mathematics. Economics is the only degree in the top 20 outside of STEM.

They should hand this out in the freshman year. Of high school.

Your problem is your chosen field. Being an editorial assistant is not going to pay anything - I was told this right out of college - those jobs are stepping stones to something else.

I have a BA in English and an MPA and I work for a large consulting firm. If you are a strong writer what about working for a communications firm? I would never recommend getting a Masters now unless you are 100% sure you can use it.

What did you end up doing with the BA in Communications?

Business Degree

Engineering Degree

Professional Degree - JD, MD, DDS

Obviously most degrees will require you to work your way up the ladder, some may even take 10 years. Few degrees allow you to walk out of the graduation ceremony with a guaranteed 100k paycheck.

BA Communications, 40, been making 6 figures for last 7 years.

A certain degree doesn't mean you will make 6 figures. There are teachers who make 6 figures and lawyers who don't. Regardless, what are you going to do about it?

Phd in a hard science. I spent most of my 20s making less than 25k as a teaching/research assistant tho, so you might be ahead of me in total!

What job and degrees do you have that have led you to a six figure salary?

I am frustrated that I have worked for 10+ years and still have not gotten there, so maybe I need to get a better degree or change my career. Can barely afford the cost of living in this area anymore!!

I have a BA in Humanities and am employed as an editorial assistant at a magazine (but not a six figure salary

What job and degrees do you have that led you to a six figure salary?
