I would call $60-$70 inexpensive. Reasonable $80-$90. Typically dealership $110-$140. Also, check whether you are being charged the "book" time for a maintenance item or the actual time it took. If they are doing something straight forward, like changing an alternator, a good mechanic should be able to do it on most cars in under the book time.

My friend says a reasonable cost is $60-$70 an hour.
I just called and asked, they charge $125 an hour for labor- is that normal in this area?
