What are the negative health risks to using Chlorox bleach?

14:32 again. Also wanted to mention that there are some natural substances that disinfect. I use tea tree oil; thyme oil is another one. My countertop/tabletop cleaner is: water, large squirt of 7th generation fragrance free dishwashing liquid, and several drops of tea tree oil in a spray bottle. Shake to mix and it's ready to use. It cleans and disinfects, and to me it smells good too!

I do not use either anymore. Except, we keep some Clorox Clean-up in the garage to use if there is a stain that just isn't coming out any other way. I find that I cannot stand the smell of chemical cleaning products anymore. I have a cleaning service once a month and they use Windex and the smell of it really turns my stomach. I wish they would use my green products ...

I use the Clorox gel pen to kill mold/mildew in my tile grout.

To get marks off of painted walls (like when my 3 year old got hold of a ball point pen yesterday, grrr), I use rubbing alcohol wipes.

Just curious, what are some products that can be used instead of Pledge or Endust on wood furniture? I don't want to ruin my furniture, but have heard that these cleaners are pretty toxic.

Still use both. Not too frequently, but still use both. Clorox for really white whites; I haven't found another cleaner, even white vinegar that does as good a job. Also use if we get busy and don't clean the shower and start to get signs of mold/mildew. I use Lysol for the diaper champ and the wet (kitchen) trash can. For the diaper champ, I spray in the very wide open, well ventilated hallway.

PP, try the Method glass cleaner. It works pretty well!

OP, I don't use Lysol at all, except for toilet bowl cleaner. For the kitchen, it's just water/soap/alcohol.

I try to go green, but with a little kid sometimes you've gotta use the hard stuff. Also, I find that nothing cleans glass better than Windex.

I have white Corian countertops. I use green stuff daily but before company comes, the Clorox comes out. Nothing else removes stains the same.

Me too.

I have also recently fallen in love with a steam vac. It is marvelous! Zero chemicals.

Never use either anymore. Hydrogen peroxide to bleach and disinfect.

cannot give up my Clorox

It's even a water purifier should you need it when the apocalypse is around the corner.

I generally use "greener" cleansers, but more commercial than vinegar/water, etc. I like ones that don't have harsh fumes and that biodegrade in the water system. Think 7th Generation or Clorox Greenworks. Not a fan of Lysol, but I do use bleach to disinfect bathroom and kitchen surfaces when someone is sick, or when I need to disinfect cutting boards after cutting up raw meat.

When it comes to cleaning, I have switched over to some green homemade solutions. I use a lot of baking soda and vinegar solutions and also Castile soap. But to get things really clean and for disinfecting, I still like to have Clorox and Lysol on hand. Are they really toxic? I feel like they are so effective, and I'm not ready to give them up.

Please let's not have this thread devolve into "I don't do my own cleaning. I have cleaners do it." Obviously I'm addressing my post to posters who clean their own home.
