I did not work with an educational consultant when looking at school for my kids so I can't help there - BUT if you are looking for a school and based on your brief description of your child may I suggest that you look at Compass Academy - which is also having an open house this weekend and another one in early May

You can also call the Center for Inclusive Education (name?) and ask if they might be able to help make sure the school is doing everything they can to support your child. Have you had your son evaluated by a well-qualified psychologist? If he is refusing to do work, there could be a lot of reasons and he may need more support (despite being very bright!) than they are giving him (but not so much that he can't succeed in that school).

Are you giving positive reinforcement at home as well (for positive school behavior). Make sure to give a copy of Lost At School to the school administrators. Great that the school is using positive reinforcement. It is a good idea to have an excellent *behaviorally oriented* psychologist on board. Get a good advocate to make sure your child is being treated with understanding and respect by school staff, getting breaks and movement breaks at school. What grade is he in? Give him time to settle into school culture (years). Try to keep pressures low from school and home.

The OP is looking for an educational consultant, not a doctor. Medication has nothing to do with placement.

I'm wondering what OP is hoping to gain from the educational consultant. More curious than anything else. She didn't say she is looking for school placement. It sounds more like she is just wanting things to work better at the current school. If the kid's behavior is that affected, and therapy and other interventions have not worked, it sounds like medication might be worth a try. I'm wondering what an educational consultant would offer in this situation. I always thought the educational consultant helped with classroom modification and accommodations and things like that.

Look for someone through the website of the Independent Educational Consultants Association. They have ADHD experts (fully vetted) at all age levels and are familiar with public and private options. Here's the link: http://www.iecaonline.com/

What county are you in? Are you looking for private or public school?

Do you want to stay in the public school? If so, you probably need an advocate like Janet Price or Ruth Heiten to work with the public school.

If you want to look at private schools who work with children with these types of needs, try Pam Tedeschi, Jenny Wilder or Cathy Biern.
