Any recs on this topic for AA hair? I am growing out natural and would love an at home color safe for natural and relaxed hair, that is good for covering grays as well.

Tall order I know, appreciate any advice!!

Ask the beauty store staff for help. When I did this before I bought the color and the developer. The shade you want determines how strong you want the developer to be (how much lift). The l'oreal and redken ones are good according to my stylist.

Make sure you go online and figure out the color with the quiz. I have started ordering it online b/c CVS doesn't always have the color.
Also what I like is that the gloves are fitted and you don't have huge mickey mouse hands.
have some face toner handy to wipe off any errant dye on your skin.

I have used everything over the years. I recommend that you figure out what undertone looks best on you (my hair is auburn and i like any shade that is a red/orange bu purple tones or straight reds look bad on me). And put a little lotion in your neck, shoulders, ears, and hairline to make it easy to clean drips.

Typo - 'hope' should be 'have' - hahaha. I certainly don't feel any hope for my gray hair.

For the last 2-3 years I colored my hair myself for the same reason. Now I'm trying to transition back to a salon since they kids are out of daycare and into public school. The ONLY home hair color that I would recommend is Frederic Fekkai

It isn't easy to get in a store, you really need to order it. And it is not the easiest one to apply b/c it has a bowl and brush like the salon whereas some of the other home hair colors have gel or foam or a squeeze bottle which are easier to use. However, the biggest downside of home hair color vs. salon that I found is how much they dry out your hair. All the ordinary brands damaged my hair, no matter how gentle the box and reviews claimed they were and how closely I followed the directions. The bowl and brush is not the easiest but this product is far superior to what I've found in the stores after a lot of trial and error. Good luck!

Single process haircolor isn't that hard if you stick to a shade close to your own. I use Loreal Sublime Mousse. It's very easy to apply and does a food job covering my greys for 4-6 weeks. I've been happy with the way it leaves my hair feeling too -- silky with lots of shine.

Due to financial reasons, I need to cut back on my once a month salon hair coloring. I have never colored my hair at home and am pretty nervous to start. Can anyone recommend a brand which is easy to apply and natural looking. Also, any tips re: doing this at home? Thanks.
