We visited our public school k class for this fall and we just could not imagine him getting what he needed, as a foundation, in a class that has at least 25 students and 1 teacher. If this is the best, then what are the worst districts doing? P.S. I have one child. If I had 2 or 3 I don't know what I'd do, cause it costs!

I know that my public school has between 22-26 students with 1 teacher and 1 aide. The private I'm looking at will have 15 at most. It is definitely a factor that I'm considering.

PP 21:17 again. So, the reason is smaller class to teacher ratio. In K he has a music, spanish, pe, science, 2 homeroom teachers with a class of 12, and great resources. It may not seem like a big deal, but public school in MC offers PE once a week, if you can imagine, and lunch must be gotten and finished in 20 minutes. My 5 year old does not eat anything in 20 minutes! His school has PE 3 times a week, recess twice daily and snacks during the day if needed, in addition to lunch. They understand that kids need to move to grow and learn. At least my child benefits greatly from this.

Our DCPS neighborhood school has 0.1 % white children and less than 30% of the students are at grade level in reading or math. There are 30 in each class with one teacher and bars on the windows.

DC will receive a much better educational opportunity than our local school. We do not have a very high HHI and cannot afford to live we're even functioning schools are a given. We focused on preparing DC for school lived below our means and applied. We are happy that it's worked out for us so far.

If you have a DC who is out of shape the PE daily is a really good thing ...

Less kids in the classroom. More teachers in the classroom. A more structured education. Recess daily, PE daily.

Local (reasonable) MoCo public school has a start time after 9 AM and a lousy before-care with equally poor after-care involving external groups that aren't part of the school system itself: for us, in addition to wanting the extracurricular and co-curricular options that are making the "whole child' thrive, the independent school's hours are much more in keeping with options for parents who work outside the home.

We're getting ready to start K next year. We live in what's considered a "good" school district. Both Mont. and FFX in general offer decent educations. So why did you choose a private school?
