I really thought about it and yes, I think it's OK. You could put "January 1999-September 2008; January 2009-present" but that's going to invite the question why. It's not a big deal to explain that you left briefly to try something else and preferred to come back--I don't think that will negatively impact you. Ultimately, though, for a 3 month stint, I wouldn't worry about breaking up the dates.

You don't have to include every job on your resume, as the PPs said, you can highlight what you want to. The one thing that bothers me a bit here, though, is that if you left job A, was at job B for 3 months and returned to job A, giving one block of dates for all that time is a little misleading. Listing the dates accurately with a 3 month gap looks weird and will invite questions. In the end, I'd leave the job off and not worry about it. If it comes up, you can explain it. Don't lie about it. It's only 3 months. Plenty of people take leave from jobs longer than that and come back and don't alter dates (and don't need to) so actually, I'm ok with this, even if I were interviewing you and found out about it.

Leave it off. If asked about it directly and explicitly, obviously tell the truth, but I don't even think I'd put it on in the employment history.

I have one of those blips too. I worked for an awful defense contractor for 2 months. Atmosphere was HORRIBLE, sexist, sexy calendars at desks, guys going to strip clubs at lunch, asking me to pick up their dry cleaning downstairs. NO JOKE!. I was asked about the gap once in interviews, and just talked about taking a break between my last full time job and the next one, in general terms (travel overseas, etc, which was all true).

No one has asked about it since, and that was 15 years ago, so it looks seamless now.

As long as your not doing anything illegal, I'm of the mindset of don't ask, don't tell, whenever possible when interviewing or discussing things with HR. They are not police officers, and you don't have to tell them your past salary, complete job history, etc. It's not a physical.

Your resume highlights the experience you want to highlight. If asked, or if you have to fill out an employment history you would of course tell about the 3-month job, right?

Leave it off. When I was in my mid 20's I had a handful of jobs not at all related to my career that I did on the side. They are not on my resume unless they somehow relate to present day.

Any chance of a potential employer digging up a 3 month stint if I leave it off my resume?.

Backstory, Was at my current job for 21/2 years, left for another, worked at the new job for 3 months, hated it and returned to my current job. I have been back for a year now. I don't want to list the 3 month job on my resume, do I have to? Any chance of them finding it during background check if I leave it off?

I will not be enduring confirmation hearings for a Supreme Court Justice or anything, I'm just an Administrative Assistant.
