Are you doing any of the Hop into K camp weeks? Those are great for getting your kid ready - a week or two would do wonders and the kids get to know others in their grade. The actual class assignments are a closely guarded secret until about a week before classes start.

OP- It sounds like you are a new K family. Welcome! You will want to try to attend the ice cream social for new families and the play dates for rising K over the Summer. I am sure you will hear more about both shortly.

I love the idea of some of the enrichment programs but I think I'll wait to see how DS adjusts to a full day of school. I expect that he's going to be completely wiped out for awhile.

7:52 here - Club Ed is only for K and above. JK now has Leopard Spot after school which ends at 2:45 and PS has Lunch Bunch. There are 30-40 full time kids in Club Ed from grades K-8. Those kids get to know each other well and seem to get along with each other. There are also kids who drop in anywhere from regularly to infrequently and they always seem to fit right in. The Club Ed team does a great job of balancing homework time, structured activities (games, crafts, etc.) and outdoor time/phyisical activity. They also do a great job of encouringing kids from different classes and grades to play together while supervised i.e. your K child will not be off playing alone with the middle school kids. They do things like play games as teams. There also seems to be good thought into what is age appropriate for each age level. We were in another after school program prior to Langley and you can't even compare the two, Langley's is just so much better.

13:54 here. PS and JK students cannot use Club Ed at all. It starts at K age, including enrichment classes. There are typically a couple kids from each class that use Club Ed daily/almost daily, but it is not typical. I think that they typical family in the area who can afford private school can afford a SAH FT or PT parent, a nanny or an au pair (or a combination of SAH and a nanny/au pair, but that is another thread). The kids all get to know each other, and I think they get used to who is there, so I wouldn't worry. They take care of the kids very well at Langley.

Langley is on spring break so you will probably not get a lot of responses to this.

We have had a positive experience with club Ed and DC has made good friends with other children who are there regularly. There is a full time director who is very good and the rest of the teachers are consistent and seem good.

I can try to answer any specific questions you have. I also suggest calling the director and speaking with her. She is very helpful. I am not sure when they are back from spring break. Probably 3/26.

Poster 13:09 - You're missing the point. Some parents who have to work would rather spend money to expose or involve their children in more valuable activities that they might enjoy and actually benefit from rather than paying (wasting) money on a nanny or sitter to watch them after school for 2 hours or sit them in front of a TV before the child's parent can be home. And I can tell you the cost of paying a nanny part-time at 10 hours per week is WAY more expensive than After-School Enrichment Classes!!

My kids have enjoyed the enrichment classes they took at Langley. Stuff like cooking, soccer, and pottery. The Club Ed gives them a snack and sends them to class, and you pick them up after or they go back to Club Ed, which bills you once a month if you use it. We've used Club Ed occasionally and my kids enjoy going. The staff is very nice. The kids have homework time and outdoor time and space seems bright and fun. No complaints.

Are there K enrichment programs? Hadn't heard about this before.

Does anyone have any experience with "Little" Langley's after-school "Club E.D." Extended Hours Program OR their after-school Enrichment Classes? I know that their "Club E.D." program runs daily from 3pm - 6pm and are offered some days when school is closed (such as Parent/Teacher Conferences and some breaks). I was just curious about the quality, the counselors, activities, and if the kids and parents are happy with it. I also know that the school offers various Enrichment Classes from Tuesdays through Fridays from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm. So, I was just curious how happy parents and kids are happy with those classes. These sound like great programs offered after-school and helpful to full-time working parents. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
