My older DD was like that too. It was so hard to go to the parent groups - mine was screaming her head off while the other babies would just sit quietly or fall asleep(!) She's now a very sweet 3 year old that is sitting relatively still looking at books next to me.

I am not sure it is even temperament at 9 weeks, OP. It may be for some and others may just need a certain kind of stimulation at this phase. Kids change A LOT. For what it's worth, my three boys were very, very chill babies and now they are on the super active side. My niece was squirmy and had to be bounced very second and now, at five, she can sit for longer than any kid I have ever seen.

Yup, we got one of those. You don't always get the child you dreamed about. Make sure she is healthy, of course, but after that I ask you to love and treasure the child you have. Don't waste your energy with people who tell you that you must be doing something wrong since their kids are so quiet and compliant.

Our basement got turned into a sensory zone (swings, ramps, crash pad, etc) for our sensory-seeking 9 year old. He LIKES going out in the cold and rough play because it just feels so good!

I think there's something wrong with you.

My son was like that, very alert and curious and sensory seeking.

Ironically, by about his second birthday he had become pretty laidback. He's a teenager now and very gentle, sweet, compliant, quiet kid. Never would have predicted that!

My DS was like that almost from day 1. He is now a high energy boy who loves, loves, loves to move. He does snuggle when he is tired, but is outgoing, confident, and loves an adventure. Just be prepared for one of those kids who needs to be outside doing stuff a lot, which can be a fabulous fun thing.

Wow - you are helpful. If you haven't had that type of child, then why even post? And no, you really aren't sorry.

My DD was like that. She is just a mover. As she got older (she is now 3), she is able to sit (but still needs her time to run).

There is an excellent book I am reading (got from the library) called "Temperament Tools". It really explains the different types of personalities. At 9 wks, you might be too tired to even consider reading a book - but some day, this might be one to scan. It's a quick read, but explains how so much of our children's temperament is hardwired.

i think its part-temperament and part parent - i think i was more nervous with #1 and i didn't know what she wanted when she fussed, so i would try everything immediately (stand up and bounce, stand up and rock side to side, push her back and forth in stroller), instead of waiting a bit to see if she would settle on her own... with #2, i just don't have the TIME to get to #2 right away, so as a result, if he was just squirming b/c he was trying to get more comfortable or about to toot or whatever, and he calmed down by himself, he never got picked up... its only if he was monsterously crying/fussing for a few minutes that he got picked up.

Wow, that was an unhelpful first response you got. Babies are different, and some just need more movement and activity than others.

My (18 week) daughter's also on the more active end of the spectrum, and I love it! I think she's a lot of fun, even if it does get tiring to have to move her from station to station. Around 10 weeks she started grabbing her little friends on her activity mat, which keeps her happy. Loves the exersaucer, too. I just tell myself we have a little athlete on our hands, and can't wait until we can sign her up for sports... :^)

well thank god you didn't have one of those babies.... you get annoyed with squirmy babies????????? People never cease to amaze.

OP, all babies are different, and I am a mom of 2 dds that are always moving and on the go. There is nothing wrong with it. Maybe not always the easiest when everyone else's is just sitting there, but not wrong. Your baby is just interested in what is going on.

Wow...what a harsh response. Just because a kid needs to be moved around doesn't mean there is anything wrong with them.

One of my kids was like that as a baby...always wanted to be moving. She's still figitty but is a healthy happy 4 year old.
