it is served with butter. some have caraway seeds. some are made with buttermilk. the one i make has sour cream. i used low-fat (don't use fat free).
3 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
pinch salt
16 oz (1 pint) sour cream
1 cup raisins (OK that might be a lot - but 1/2 one of those big boxes)
2 tsp baking powder
1/5 tsp baking soda
Combine all ingredients in a bowl & mix well. The dough is extraordinarily sticky - best to use your hands. A spoon just won't cut it.
Put it all in a buttered loaf pan, in a preheated 325 degree oven. Bake for 1 hour 15 minutes. Yum!
