Our DS got off the WL at GDS at the end of May one year. We had written a note to the AD right after we got the WL letter stating that the school was our first choice for our child and we were really hoping a spot would free up.

We had a deposit at another school when my DC was accepted off of a waitlist. We lost our deposit, but it was no big deal. It was a quick turn around though. Once she was off the WL, I think it was a day or two that we had to get the deposit in them.

What agreement are you talking about? I thought that you still have the right to withdraw after you pay a deposit (though you lose it), but before the drop dead date in May, June or July. I know in NYC, the schools will not accept a student off a waitlist after they put down a deposit, so you have to use subterfuge, but I wasn't aware of anything like that in DC or the AISGW.

Because my guess is that they have responsibilities that include but are not limited to calling and following up with parents. Of the four schools we were waitlisted at, one had us set up a time to call them and the three others called us when we moved off the list.

We got a call the day after the deadline to respond to the acceptance offers. DC was offered a spot as soon as one was turned down. Good luck and hang in there. I know how gut wrenching it is. Whatever you do, do not F**k it up now by becoming a PITA. Restrain yourself even if it is the hardest thing you have ever had to do.

Thank you for this valuable reminder -- I needed it and appreciate it. The only complicating factor is that we need to make a decision about the school my kid did get into. we are trying to make an independent decision about that one, but it is hard to get over the hope of the other school.

Got a call last year ath the beginning of April.

You should absolutely call the school that you are w/l at to ask about the chances, etc. Schools get these sorts of calls all the time. It will also communicate to the school your interest.
