OH, in THAT case : Do NOT call your 1st choice school and tell them that you have another offer. Some schools will honor their Assoc. of Indep. Schools agreement and not accept your WL accept if you tell them that you have made a deposit to another school. It is an honor bound thing. So, be very careful here. I would not raise attention with either school, just mail in the deposit and contract and see of you hear about 2nd school before June 1st (May 31st being last day to cancel a contract without owing full tuition for year. Send in the contract and wait. If you do not hear from 1st choice by late May, no loss.
Bo NOT turn down an accept hoping for a WL to work out. Many times it will not. Do not assume that the school is looking at your DC in isolation. The AD's in this town have to have good working relationships. No AD can make it for long if she lets other schools get sent up the river. Keep your deliberations to yourself.

They ask YOU to call them, OMG that is rude. If a spot becomes available they should graciously call you. What are you supposed to do , kep calling and hope that they pick up?
This is actually a good way for them to assess who on the WL is truly interested and not waste their time calling people. It's another hoop to jump through but when you have the volume of applicants they do all weeding options help.
Above poster: please explain why it is a "waste of time" for some one who is earns a salary to call parents who are patiently waiting and have expressed their interest. A school that takes this view is its own worst enemy in my view. Unless, of course you want a school FULL of envelop pushers. Is that the purpose of the "screening" ?

This was our experience at Beauvoir: DC was W/L. We did not call ( restrained ourselves), but did send the card back indicating we wanted DC to stay on WL. We got a call the day after the deadline to respond to the acceptance offers. DC was offered a spot as soon as one was turned down. Good luck and hang in there. I know how gut wrenching it is. Whatever you do, do not F**k it up now by becoming a PITA. Restrain yourself even if it is the hardest thing you have ever had to do.
Thank you for this valuable reminder -- I needed it and appreciate it. The only complicating factor is that we need to make a decision about the school my kid did get into. we are trying to make an independent decision about that one, but it is hard to get over the hope of the other school.
it IS hard. thanks.
