What advice do you have to offer people who live in the exurbs and commute to DC? None.

What advice are you looking for?

This thread is boring, just like the actual exurbs.

Sorry, OP. Back to the cheating spouse.

I work and live within the town of Leesburg. My commute, including daycare dropoff, is 15-25 minutes depending on how much my daughter goofs off.

I work in IT, so there's plenty of jobs between me and Tysons.

Yes, you've seen me before.

You've just rendered this topic completely uninteresting. You live in the same town in which you work. So do millions of other people. And Leesburg is a nice town. The questions people have for exurbites all center around the commute and the tradoff of house size/land v. travel time.

Another exurbanite here. Live in western Prince William County. Commute to DC. I commute at off times. Leave the house around 6:15. At my kids' school for pick-up by 5. Husband works in Fairfax and handles the AM routine. Part of the move was related to house size and neighborhood. And yes, my life during the week is very commute-driven though I'm okay with the trade-off. When I was inside the Beltway, my commute was still somehow 45 minutes.

3100 square feet.

Built in 1973, within 1/2 mile of downtown.

Bought in 2011.

Cost $393,000.

Occasionally, when DC/Arlington/Alexandria folks start getting too snobby, I start reminding them how much $393k gets you in their part of the world.

I have a certain soft spot for 1973, since that's the year I was born, but it was a terrible time for architecture. No thanks. Also not sure the average-sized American family benefits from anything over 2,000 square feet at most. Not a trade off I would care to make.

Do you live in the exurbs so you can SAH and have many children?

Sorry I don't fit your stereotype of exurban people.
