For the whole picture (academics, athletics, social life, college matriculation), I'd put these schools ahead of Sidwell:

STA
Holton
NCS
Potomac (maybe)

I know 5-6 people who said no to Sidwell, mostly for MoCo magnets, but some for other privates. You're in good company.

This is hilarious. You really need the Internet's help to figure out how to handle this ``problem?''

Fax a letter or call -- be courteous to others on the waiting list and to admissions staff by quickly clarifying your status so they can move on to others.

Either write a letter or call (or both).

We have a neighbor who turned it down for K a few years ago for our neighborhood public school.

Sidwell is A top school in the area, but Sidwell is not for everyone. Personally, we have no interest in the place, and our oldest never even applies.

Ok, so if Sidwell is not the top school in the area, then what is?

Sidwell is NOT the top school in the area, so you made the right call.

Truly just for curiosity, but where are you sending your child? Congratulations...

Congratulations to you for not choosing a school just because of its reputation as the top/most competitive school in the area. I think there are many people, especially on this board, who are so enamored by the name "Sidwell" that they don't even bother to consider other options that may be better fits for their child.

Just like any other school, call the AD office to tell them.

Its flattering to be accepted to Sidwell because so many people covet this school, but we are going to be turning down the K spot they offered us for our child. There was no paperwork to send back if you DON'T want to accept the offer, so whats the best way to let them know that you are declining? Should you call or email? We have never been through this before, so I wanted to check on the proper etiquette.
