Well we are politically much more tolerant here...didn't they have an Aryan Nation parade in Yonkers? Sociologically speaking, the two areas are nothing alike. And yeah, take a look in our alley, our addition is quite huge and has creative details. I have an artists cottage out back that spend most of my time in. It is my "hobbit house".

Doesn't all this just confirm the real estate mantra: "location, location, location"? People aren't paying high prices in AU Park because of the fabulous houses; they're paying for the location. The same house in Yonkers would be somewhat cheaper, and the same house in Frederick, MD would be far cheaper.

Agree. First house too wide for AU Park. Second one is perfect but could just as easily be close-in Silver Spring or Arlington. Third one looks like something in the far-eastern part of Chevy Chase DC. I've seen stuff like that on 28th/29th Streets.

My grandmother lived in Yonkas. All I can say is that AU Park is MUCH safer than Yonkers!!!
But AU Park doesn't have any personality compared to Yonkers (surprise surprise). And they certainly don't "decorate" for Christmas in DC like they do in Yonkers!!!
Oh, and no White Castle either!

The interesting thing in AU Park is to walk the alleys. Houses which look very small from the street often have large (and occasionally architecturally interesting) additions.

Sadly, the reality is that there are quite a few properties in Yonkers that are more appealing than anything in AU Park, would fit it comfortably in Chevy Chase, and would cost only a fraction of what a similar house costs in this area. Of course, it may be that you make up the difference in taxes.
Maybe they could be sister cities. These houses are so AU Park!

People should not prejudge Yonkers based on the name - the suburban equivalent of Smuckers jam.
Take a look at these properties and tell me whether they'd be out of place in AU Park:

Well it has alway been the neighborhood of gov't worker bees since the house were built in the 30's for FDR's new gov't class. Parts of it near Wisconsin does look like Yonkers, lol. when you go deeper in it is much prettier. More like the town in Leave it to Beaver. Nothing lavish.

I Love it! So true. Some of the houses are so fugly, chain link fences, wilted front lawns etc. Really reminds me of a working class neighborhood, yet it's so desirable around these parts.
