Unless your kids are baptized Catholics and you want them to prepare for communion in the Catholic church (requires two years of classes, usually first and second grade), it's not going to work. Especially if your family doesn't attend mass.

You could go to http://ChildrensBibleVerse.com sign up and read them a bible verse a night with a little devotional and teach them yourself if you like. That is what I did while my children were growing up.

Agreed. Catholics don't teach as much about the bible for their RE classes although their schools focus a lot on the bible. Are there any methodist churches then that teach children later in the day on the weekends?

Catholics do not teach about the bible. I would try A Methodist church.

Thanks! I'll check it out. BTW we have a 3 year old and a 7 year old and will have this conflict for several years so I'm looking for classes for the elementary years too.

My child attends an Atrium religious ed class at St. Charles. It is based on the Montessori method. We love it. I know a parish (St. Louis) closer to our home offers a Sat AM class. Worth checking out. They learn about the liturgical seasons, parts of the mass and it's all hands on. It's not exclusive to the CAtholic church. I think some other churches offer it too. Here is the link to learn more about the Atrium program and find one near you. http://www.cgsusa.org/atrium.aspx

We have a potential conflict on Sunday mornings starting at 9:30, but would still love to take our young children to a christian or catholic church with a children's mass or bible class. Are there any in the area that offer a children's class or break out where children discuss the readings or bible stories at a time other than Sunday mornings? All the churches around us only have Sunday morning sessions for kids. We are a mixed catholic and methodist family, so anything christian or catholic church would probably work for us. Thanks for any help.
