I totally understand your concern with large class sizes... it's probably my biggest complaint as well. My 2nd grader has 30 kids in her class. First grade was much better with 22, but it was still kind of chaotic. Even with that, I'm still not willing to part with $60K/yr (two kids) for private. My philosophy is to take what the public school offers, make sure MY child is progressing, and supplement where I think my child needs more. I think the class size will go down again for 3rd grade b/c the administrators know that the SOLs happen in 3rd grade, so they put more resources into that grade. You have to be able to kind of go with the flow in public school. But looking at the test scores for this school, it looks to be a good place and I wouldn't have any concerns about putting my kids here (it is quite similar to my kids' school with the exception that it has a larger base of asian kids, but overall, very similar).

Thanks PPs. I appreciate your insights. I have spoken with administrators, and they were very nice and responsive. I guess the biggest issue for me is large class size. I guess that is the state of most school districts these days, not just Fairfax County.

Go to the school. Talk to the principal.... maybe talk to the parents waiting to pick up their kids at the end of the day.

Public schools are not perfect, but this sounds kind of typical. However, saving $30K/yr. makes the trade-off a lot better.

Your child will be fine with a public school education.... 170,000 kids do it in FCPS each year. They are not scarred by the down-side. It's never going to be as nicely organized or packaged as a private school, but do not fear public school based on one response.

It is really overcrowded, with a very small playground and cramped gym, cafeteria, etc. The classrooms seem small and are at capacity. For some reason, hires a lot of new, young teachers who move on to other schools once they get a few years experience.

Can anyone tell me more about the academic and social repution of this school? DCs currently attend private schools, but due to economy we may need to enroll them in 1st and 2nd grades at Eagle View. Any insights on this school, or where I could go to find out more about its reputation would be greatly appreciated.
