The people I know who do it, do it for attention. What they are saying is "look at how awesome my vacation is!". My personal feeling is, enjoy your vacation, post photos and talk about it when you get home. I too find it a bit odd that people post when they are actually away.

Only if you have your feed set to public or your don't trust your friends. I have no concern that my closest friends and family are going to rob my house.

Why does everyone read negative intent into what people post on Facebook. I have maybe 40 "friends," mostly family but I don't turn down friend requests from people actually know so I have some "friends" who are neighbors and colleagues and people from high school/college.

When I post pictures of things like vacations of facebook, it is really so that my parents/in-laws/sisters can see them. It takes 10 seconds from a phone. I don't mind if the rest of my "friends" see them, but I am also not going to not post a picture for my mom because some random person I have a slight aqcuaintance with thinks that it is pointless, presumptuous, or an attempt to make them feel bad about their lives.

No, not to brag. To share with friends an family. I love seeing FB friend's vacation photos and status updates, especially if they are visiting one of my favorite places. It's
fun to see vacations photos and updates. Kind of like a little escape.

Although come to think of it I don't see anyone actually USING Foursquare anymore.

Depends on the extent of the activity. You can update your status from your phone in about 10 seconds, same with posting a picture. That's pretty simple.

I suppose it's another thing if you're posting 20 photos at once with captions and comments and commenting on 30 friends' statuses.

To brag

For the same reason I update my status while I am here - I want to share something (usually, a cute picture of my daughter). Yes, I know not everyone is interested, but the ONLY reason I have facebook is to keep connected with my family in my country, and through facebook, I feel closer to them and I hope they can feel closer to us and my daughter. I have only 34 "friends" and of that, 30 are family members.

I use facebook probably an average amount for someone my age--I check it a few times a week and occasionally comment on other people's pictures or post up a couple of my own. I like it and it's fun. But here's what I don't get: people who update their status and post photos WHILE they are on vacation. It always makes me think their vacation must not be that fun if they are spending their time on FB. On the too-rare occasion that I get away somewhere warm or beautiful with the people I love, half of the fun is disconnecting from everyone else. Am I missing something? Why post on FB while you're on vacation with your spouse/family?
