OP. By comparing a veteran to a SAHM, you are showing how much of an idiot you are. The 2 couldn't be any farther apart. You only make a mockery out of SAHMS and insult veterans.

Nice job.

What are you talking about? This is not true!

Actually it is true for certain federal jobs same for people for certain disabilities. The rules are very complicated but its there.

While that thread became mean-spirited it was not ridiculous. Also SAHM's and Veterans have nothing in common. Also, if I were advising a veteran who was applying for a job (even the one with veterans preferences) I would tell them to explain how they are qualified for the position instead of belaboring the point they are a veteran.

And that thread has been beating like a dead horse. Plus, you just sound like an ass.

You need to take a writing course.

Highlight your most relevant skills and experience - don't fill pages of your resume with technical descriptions of being a radio operator when you're applying for a marketing job. Convert your resume to English - avoid acronyms and miltary-speak. It may be impressive in a military setting but I can't decipher it. If your military career did not provide you with relevant experience, highlight previous experience that does. Use your cover letter to help me understand why I should consider you for the job. Demonstrate knowledge of my company, our industry, and the market in which we operate.

These are all things that every candidate should do, but things that I see ex-military most often missing the mark on.

Also, show me that you are more than military.

PS I'm a military brat - father served 30+ years. Great respect for the military, and want veterans to do well when they return to the commercial sector.

I thought Vets only had a preference for federal jobs, not all jobs.

OP here. That's exactly what I mean. If the law tells you that you should respect people's choices, then they become sacrosanct, right? But otherwise, you can trample upon them and let your prejudices run amuck.

Please do not submit a resume with a 10+ year gap and then tell me in your cover letter that you were off defending the country. That does not help you at all. Explain what you have done to keep up your knowledge in your profession. Tell me why I should hire you instead of the other 100 people who applied for the same job.

Rant over
