(1) This is absolutely correct. The math, science and computer science program at Blair is known as "magnet" program. Generally, there is no need to clarify.
(2) This is a simple question and a reasonable post. The vitriol does not make any sense and can only be explained by the fact that some people are simply nuts.

In any event I don't have a magnet kid but my MCPS DC spends 2-4 hours on homework a day. Usually takes Friday/Saturday off and spends more time on Sunday. Often also studies during lunchtime. So it sounds like 30 hours is a lot but about what I would expect for a magnet program.
Not sure why a seemingly simple question has resulted in such vitriol. Maybe it's the crazy magnet lady from the private school thread?

Some kids are average and some are super quick homework finishers.
Some kids are slow pokes and others are very fast and efficient with completing homework assignments.
Some kids read and comprehend well (speed readers), others are slow and plodding readers.
Some kids type fast with accuracy and others are slow and mistake prone.
Some kids are excellent and savvy with computers and problem solving and others are only average.
Some kids are procrastinators and others are not regarding homework.
Some kids have great organisational and management skills regarding homework and others need a parent or other hiree to manage their homework.
These observations apply to all grades. Some spend 1 to 2 hours a night and some never finish their homework.
I hope this helps. The "rediculousness" of homework is in the eye of the beholder (e.g., parent and/or child).

It could also be that CAP kids come from the DCC, so it isn't technically drawing out of boundary kids since, at least in principal, a DCC kid who's not in CAP could go to Blair.

My understanding is that a single school can only have one "magnet" program for some arcane reason having to do with funding or transportation or something. Since the science/magnet got there first, CAP is just known as CAP, even though it too is an application program. My kid goes to CAP too....

Although it does not answer my question specifically; your answer at least provides some specifics within stated parameters as to how much homework you experienced. I was hoping that others would be able or willing to share theirs and/or their student's experience with homework load, since I'm finding it hard to determine what is a "normal" amount of time most magnet students should and/or do spend on homework. Comments about every student being different is not helpful. I know this to be true. I'm trying to get a sense as to whether what DC is experiencing is normal or not? Wondering if the magnet program may not be the best fit, since most of DC's time is spent on homework. If you have experience with the magnet program, I would appreciate your insights. Thank you.

By the end of my junior year I was doing almost 3 hours of homework most nights-honors and AP classes at a Moco private school (so this may not answer your question directly).
However, when I got to college I was so much better prepared for th workload than my peers who had less homework
