I agree with the birth control discussion.
And would people please stop pretending that teens haven't been having sex forever. This is nothing new!

A minor child living at home--enough said.

...and being embarrassed is a bad thing. Sometimes a little embarrassment can be a strong motivator for change.

Oh how embarrassing to have mom and dad drag you to a stranger to discuss why you are such a whore. I think I would prefer a private heart to heart session.

Thanks PPs - its not risen to the level of sex yet AFAIK. I don't want to get too specific but its a younger teen, who has good grades, athletics, stable home. The interest right now is getting together with people where there is no relationship. If it were a relationship issue, I feel like I would still be disappointed but at least I could better understand the dilemma. This I don't understand. Hopefully counseling will assist. I saw there is a book on Amazon called Loose that studies this a bit. Any other book recs or ways to deal with appreciate.

I think the first is just normal teen behavior and the 2nd is more of an actual problem...
Good luck either way!

OP said "promiscuous" not "sexually active."

Promiscuous means many partners.

So, it doesn't depend on the details.

I don't think it's that simple, PP. I know some very religious people who would label an unmarried sexually active person as promiscuous regardless of age and number of partners. So, asking for clarification when the post is anonymous is quite reasonable.

I think this is really sad when teens have sex is deemed normal behavior.

Hi. I feel for you! I don't know the answer, but you are not alone. I have a few friends that are dealing with this issue also. All the teens have pretty good grades and play sports and, to my knowledge, have a decent social life. The t.v. shows DO give unrealistic examples of intimacy and this might contribute to the issue. It's a crappy situation, but I didn't want you to feel like you were the only one dealing with this.

Anybody dealt with this? Will obviously tackle with counseling, but wondering if others have suggestions or ideas? Frustrated because a lot of the risk factors for this would appear to be non-existent or mitigated through things we already do, and yet it is appearing as a recent major issue. Wondering if its just that our society's culture is so messed up kids really perceive casual hook ups to be the new norm. Any tips or thoughts appreciated.
