Sorry OP. I have a friend going through ivf now and I'm currently pregnant. I know what name she and her dh have at the top of their list. While I love the name, I won't even consider it given what shes going through. I dont even know of they would ultimately use the name, but it would be such a punch in the gut for her if we did. I assume your bro had no idea...

So I know this won't help, but I promise you will find another name you love when it's your turn. I had a DD name picked out long before I'd even met DH and then right after I met DH my brother and his wife had a baby and named her MY name. I was so dissapointed but now years later, I adore my niece and love that she has that name. I also have a DD of my own now who has a beautiful name that suits her perfectly. When you get pregnant (fingers crossed it is soon!) you will find another special name...and it will become even more special once it belongs to you DD. Good luck!!

So sorry, Op! We also dealt with this. A co-worker named her child the very uncommon name we had chosen for a girl, at around the time I would have given birth had I not had a very early miscarriage. When I first heard, it kind of made my head spin for a second. Then, a family member began discussing the use of another name close to the one we had chosen for a boy. I don't know if they will actually use that boy name, but it really felt strange. As if IF isn't weird and crappy enough! Both experiences felt very unreal.

Arrgh that sucks PP! I heard the name Ella a few months back on a Law and Order ep, and loved it. Checked the baby name lists, and yep, it's incredibly popular now so I didn't add it to the list. But, if you've loved it that long, you should reconsider maybe?

It was not even on the charts for popularity then, now it is one of the most popular names and several relatives have used it. We've only been able to have a son through about 4 years of TTC. Still our favorite girl name, but won't use it now.

I'm sorry OP. This is just another one of those disappointing things in the whole infertility journey. But there is no law that says you can't use the name too, if you really like it, if and when you have a daughter. They don't own it.

DH and I have been TTCing for about a year now with no success. My brother and SIL have a 2 year old and one on the way. They just announced the name for baby #2 and it is the girl name that DH and I have had secretly picked out years ago. I'm so happy for them and obviously love the name, just sad that we didn't have a baby of our own to give the name to.
