If anyone has a recommendation for someone in DC or Bethesda for same issues, would appreciate it.

I love Mary Lynn Duvall. She was exceptionally competent and effective.

I think finding a RD is good start, but not all RDs will you give you the same advice. I'm a RD myself, and there are nutritionists who are not RDs that qualified as well. And I will never tell anyone that regular and whole wheat pasta are the same

Do your research, talk to the potential dietitians/nutritionists, and find out if you're comfortable with them.

I have a weight loss coaching program, and I'm a mom myself. You can find more information about my services on my website: www.nourition.com

Good luck!

This might not for you, but I did Weight Watchers at age 16 and it was fantastic. I lost about 10 lbs and still, 25 years later, 5 lbs down from my max weight. They cover portion size, nutrition, and are a really supportive atmosphere.

Eh, I met a registered dietitian who told a colleague "you might as well eat regular pasta, it has the same amount of carbs as whole wheat pasta" and when questioned about fiber content said it doesn't make much of a difference. Just finding an RD doesn't guarantee you will get good advice. Ask for referrals before you see anyone.

Thank you all. This info is very helpful and I'll definitely look at eatright.

P.S. Meant to add: go to www.eatright.org, the web site of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association) and enter your zip code to see a long list of RDs in this area.

OP, whatever you do, be sure to go to a Registered Dietitian. These people are educated, trained in clinical practice and licensed by the state and a governing body. Anyone can (and many quacks do) use the term "nutritionist;" it means nothing.

Hi there,

I am a Holistic Health Counselor, mother of four, and Chef of 15 years. I work with Mothers and Children, helping them accomplish better nutrition. If you are looking for a holistic approach (looking at your daughter's happiness in all aspects of her life, not just food) then I'd be happy to do a free consultation, either with her alone or with you both.

Best,

Coach Christy

Looking for someone (besides her nagging mother - me) to help our teenage daughter get control of her weight issues.

Anyone use a nutritionist they'd recommend?
