OP here with update:
DC attended alone, and stated most kids had their parents with them.
But, DC just got notification today that they have been awarded the scholarship, and it is being funded at the highest possible level!
I am so happy for DC right now!

I think the opposite is true. That a child who comes on their own will appear more self confident and driven. I think your child's instincts are spot on.

I think it would it would be zero impact or work in DC's favor -- both because DC asked you not to be there and because the college will see who the driver is here (which must be refreshing when other parents are still finishing their kid's sentences for them). Good luck!

My senior DC is going through the scholarship application process for a prestigious scholarship at a state school. DC has made it through the first 2 phases: 1) Portfolio review 2) Day of interviews and introduction to the program.
DC went to the interview day on their own because they stated our parental presence would make them too self-conscious.

Now DC has been invited back for "Selection Day". It will be an all day process with another interview, meeting department faculty and a luncheon provided. The notification letter states that "parents are invited but their presence is not required". Of course we would love to accompany DC that day, but DC again states that our presence would make them self -conscious.
That is fine with us, but I am just wondering if our not being there would somehow count against DC in the selection process?
