Anyone consider renting a home in retirement...buying a condo? Why does this make sense for you?
Anyone care to share how they see their lives when they retire?

What do you mean by your comment, "southern types?"

I do not mean to be offensive. We have lived in different parts of the world and find the northeast fits our lifestyle.

Great question. We've got on in college and two more still a ways off from independence, but I think DH and I would enjoy a small apartment or rowhouse in DC and flexibility to travel, both to places we've never been, and to see (hopefully) grandkids. All of that takes money though. Time to start saving those dollars I guess.

We hated Florida. Vising parents early bird specials etc, Visitedx friiends after cruise spent week in Delray Beach,, great dining was fun. The following year stayed with friends in Boca. We spent a rainy day with a broker and walked into an ocean front Palm Beach Cono. WE BOUGHT IT THAT DAY. Retired (well sort of really cut back) Now live here as much as possible. great place to retire

I would like to live near my daughter. If I retire at 65, my daughter will be 34 so she may be fairly settled by then.

Were a ways off from retirement but I'm sure that proximity to family will be a major factor. In a couple locals it will be nice to be able to buy a house outright with the sale of our home here (even if this home is not paid off). If we end up in a high priced area, like around here, we will have a lot less cash. Either way, we'll have family around.

I have no idea. My kids are only 10 and 12. Ask me again in 20 years.
