My husband hates ketchup, and is disgusted that DS and I like it (though only on fries). Too bad.

Ketchup is basically sugar and tomato. Might want to point that out to the DH who's feeding it to DC.

True, but if you went to a lot of time and money and trouble to fix friends a dinner of say, expensive swordfish steaks, and they asked to dip it in KETCHUP would you really go to any trouble for them after that? I wouldn't. Next time I invited them over they'd get burgers.

My DH encouraged DS (age 2) to dip his apples in ketchup and he loved it . I actually do not like ketchup and cannot stand even stand the smell - so cleaning up after the two of them grosses me out.

Can't hate... I'm another ranch dressing dipper. Love it on pizza, fries, burgers, fried chicken, anything fried really. I'm also a big fan of hot sauce. BUT unlike your DH's I would never put hot sauce or ranch dressing on a really good piece of meat or a dish that obviously was not intended to be a vehicle for it that someone personally made me.

Pancakes? No. But hot sauce on mashed potatoes? Yes. Stuffing? Yes. Ketchup on roasted fingerling potatoes? Yes. Ketchup on roast beef? Yes. Hot sauce in every single kind of pasta or soup? Yes.

And then, there's the anecdote about some U.S. president of yore who would invite potential cabinet members to dine with him. If they seasoned their food before tasting it, they didn't get the position, because it showed that they acted on instinct or habit, instead of assessing a situation carefully before choosing a course of action.

never heard that anecdote, but I love it. My FIL does this. I am a good cook and I go out of my way to make really nice meals when they visit, and he'll take salt to a perfectly seasoned beef tenderloin ($100 piece of meat) with port wine reduction without even tasting it first. GRRR.

Does he put ketchup or hot sauce on his pancakes?

I probably shouldn't be annoyed by this, but after almost ten years of marriage, I'm frustrated that my DH puts ketchup and / or hot sauce on practically everything I make. I also shouldn't take it personally- because he'd put ketchup and / or hot sauce on pretty much anything ANYONE made, except a meal at a fancy restaurant.

My sister's husband is also like this, only with him it's BBQ sauce.

My 2.5 year old sees daddy putting ketchup on things like eggs and pot roast and he wants to join in-- and then he dips his green beans and his carrots and I start thinking yep, I'm going to have that kid to someday becomes someone's husband who puts ketchup and hot sauce on everything.

Thanks for listening.
