Go to the the piano bar at Pat O`Briens. Have a hurricane and then go to the Coffee Pot Cafe around the corner.
Lots of Antique stores on Royal St.
Check out the Voodoo Museum and Gallier House. Wander through the French Market.
Just a walk down Burbon Street will give a nun a heart attack.
You can take a riverboat down to Chalmette Battlefield. Accross the river in Algiers is the Mardi Gras Museum.

2 days is NOT enough.

We went a couple of years ago in mid-March also. We had a fantastic Sunday brunch at Muriel's.

Beignets at Cafe du Monde are pretty much mandatory. Beyond that, Stella, Stanley, Cochon, Luke and August are fantastic (though it's really, really easy to eat well in New Orleans). If you can venture a bit further, love Cake Cafe for breakfast, Creole Creamery for ice cream, and Dante's Kitchen for brunch.

I'd also really recommend getting out of the Quarter (not hard to do via taxi or streetcar) to the Garden District. Beautiful architecture, a little less touristy.

Sigh. Must plan a trip soon. Have fun!

I have the opportunity to go to New Orleans in mid-March for a few days (conference is there later in the week) and my mom is going to fly down with me so we can spend 2 days sight-seeing, trying the foods, shopping. Anyone have suggestions on must see places (we're staying the French Quarter, won't have a car) and must eats (restaurants, cafe's)? Thanks.
