What is a "real" king cake? People seem to have very specific ideas about what's authentic (to the point of mail-ordering them from new orleans!) but the recipes online are widely varied.

I've seen them at Safeway, but if you're going to a party, you might want to do a true bakery. (i.e. might be a little fancier.)

Praline in Bethesda has had them in the past.

You can also mail order them from places in New Orleans.
