Typically, the male partner has to be there 2 hours before your procedure--at CFA, I think he had to be there before 8:30am; when he was done, we'd go get breakfast somewhere and then I'd come back around 10:30. The IUI takes about one minute, and then you'll just lie there for 5 minutes or so. If your spouse wants to be in the room, he can; it was just easier and less awkward for us if my spouse stayed in the waiting room. He abstained from caffeine and alcohol for a few days before the procedure, but I think that was more just feeling like he was doing something, rather than it being strictly necessary. Obviously, he should abstain from sex 2 days before the procedure to have the ideal sample.
