Subject: What range/stove do you have?
Everyone I know with an AGA hates it. It is the kind of thing that seems like a good idea in a magazine, but in the real world it is not practical.

The traditional AGA cooker is the one that is on all of the time. AGA now makes a number of other ranges that aren't on all the time which might be a better fit for this area.
I would look through some of the posts on the GardenWeb appliance forum. There are postings for pretty much every appliance brand you could think of.

Wolf 6 burner. Love it.
Viking - hate it. Huge POS.
Also liked the GE Profile I had.

I have this range below. $360.00, Kenmore electric, one oven. I would like to upgrade someday when money allows. I'm also a better cook than most people I know (more skills, better intuition, finer palate). On this. The $360, 30" range.

Does anyone have induction? We don't have gas in our new house and I am considering it.

AGA is just not a good fit in DC because the thing is on all the time -- you really don't want something generating constant heat in your house in June/July/August. I have friends with one and I cooked on it. It was fine to cook on, lots of space and warming areas. But they turned it off for the entire summer and just used their grill and a stand-alone burner. It put out a lot of heat in the kitchen.
When I move to Vermont I will totally get one.

I've seen many negative reviews from owners re Viking.
I can't find many reviews re AGA. Not sure why.

Kenmore elite gas with warming drawer. Great value for a residential appliance. Recently renovated, love to cook and bake. Researched all brands, liked the Viking but their residential line is a ripoff, and unless you have upgraded gas service forget about the high btu models.
Like aga, also liked the miehle but didn't want to spend more than $2,000.

I can't speak to brands, but I wouldn't cook on anything but gas. You just can't get the same level of control.
