But I'm also all for fostering independence. Once DD started not getting enough sleep I had to move her to her own room. DH is selfish and still tries to bring her to bed with us because he likes to cuddle with her but I won't let him.

We're expecting another baby and I keep telling him to wait because this one will be soon again between us.

We have plenty of alone time to do our "stuff" and I also love to cuddle with DD but she's a mess next day when we share the bed.

I coslept (but not bedshared) with ours as newborns. For naps they slept in a carrier or bassinet. Then into their own cribs they went.

I have bedshared with them on vacations or when visiting family. And no one got a good night's sleep. I don't regret having them sleep in their own beds one bit.

And even as a young infant my third hated to be held or laid next to when she was tired. She'd get increasingly fussy. Lay her down by herself in her crib or bassinet and she'd calm down and go to sleep. She still does that now at 1. All babies are different. Adults don't NEED to sleep next to anyone. Neither do children. Want and need are two different things.

Yeah I'm with you until you get to the dh part. I love sharing a bed with dh and dd. I expect once I have a few kids and they are a little older that they will share a bed as I did with my siblings. Luckily for us, in this country and time, we really don't have to do what we think everyone else is doing, but whatever works and feels right to us.

I find your post weird. You seem very animal like.

Does anyone else find it weird that we push newborns into their own rooms and cribs, insist on small children who are afraid to sleep alone in their rooms and then cuddle up to a spouse at night ourselves? As adults we do the opposite of what we expect from babies and kids. Shouldn't we bunk up with the kiddies and sleep alone as adults? Id rather sleep next to my sweet baby than snoring DH anyday. And for me sexy time doesnt have to be at night and/or in our bed.
