Actually, OP, it was my pcp who gave him the referral. So you can get it from your doctor if necessary. There were no issues. It was billed to his insurance bc we are on separate plans. If something is abnormal the re can redo it if they want.

Thanks for the info - I assumed that our PCP would send him somewhere (like Quest). I know that the RE would request this or do it on-site but I was just trying to have a few tests in-hand when we go there for them to look at during this initial visit. I'm actually seeing my PCP soon to have them send me for Day 3 BW, otherwise it will be 2 more cycles before I can have this done due to the timing of my cycle and our appointment.

Yes, he just needs a referral to a lab like quest or lab corp for semen analysis. The doctor will not be analyzing the specimen, the lab will. My husband did this... be warned he went to a quest lab that wanted him to drop off the sample. They gave him a container and told him to drop it off.... he went a few days later but he went alone and had to drive while holding the container so it would stay warm. LOL. There are some places where you deposit onsite.

I would be surprised if a PCP could handle this because sperm needs to be examined within a short window of being procured. A PCP won't have the ability to do this in-house. However, it is easy for the RE's office to do and you should be able to get this scheduled and done within a week or two or your appointment with the RE. There will be plenty of tests that they will require for you as part of a fertility work up that must be done at a certain time of your cycle (and not all at the same point) so there will be plenty of time for your DH to get his test done during the two (or so) cycles that it takes to get all of your testing done.

Can DH go to his PCP for this? We have an appointment with an RE in 4 weeks but just wanted to speed up the process a bit.
