Hebrew is closely linked to Jewish culture. Are you suggesting that being an at-risk youth is closely linked to African-American culture? Or, did you just make a poor analogy?
NP here. Agreed it is a bad analogy. But comparing a Hebrew School to Roots PCS wouldn't be, would it?

Awful comparison. Really. Opposing taxpayer funding for a religious school isn't in the same ballpark. See the concept of separation of church and state....
I have no hatred for Jews. I don't indulge in stereotypes about Jews. I would enlist if we went to war to protect Israel. But I similarly will not be cowed by raising a fair question that isn't motivated by anti-semitism, and I say "shame on you" for suggesting that it is.

Hold on now. Asking why taxpayers should fund a Jewish school is not anti-semitism. Get a grip and don't hurl that accusation around so casually.

I disapprove of a charter school with Hebrew language immersion. I sort of feel similarly about Arabic, but not as strongly, as at least Arabic is spoken through a large segment of the world instead of by one single religious minority.

The DC Public Charter School Board (PCSB) accepted 11 applications to open new public charter schools by the February 1st deadline. The charter schools, if approved, would open in fall 2013.
The applications offered a variety of program options: two elementary schools with language immersion (Hebrew and Arabic); four young adult education programs with one focused on job training in renewable energy technologies, one on preparing for postsecondary education and employment, another on alternative education targeted to at-risk youth and the other a virtual/online program; an elementary/middle school; a college prep high school; a Montessori program and a combined traditional and online K-12 program.
