Not when we lived there. That's why we moved to Fairfax County.

Nice try, but fail.

I'm being serious. Much happier in Arlington where we don't need this nonsense. What a freak show you people have over there.

Have you ever compared the Arlington and FFX curriculum's side by side to make this determination?

Yes, actually. Which is why I bought in Arlington.

Fairfax base schools are great. Fairfax AAP is also very good. What is ridiculous is the parents who angle and scheme to get into AAP. Not everyone needs to be in AAP and some parents have a hard time understanding that their child is not a fit. Instead, they come up with conspiracy theories about the teachers and AART denying their kids gift and paying extra money for appeals. But, remember, most parents do not do this. For my oldest, the process was straightforward and involved nothing from me but filling out one questionnaire. But many of those who get so anxious and obsessive about the process do post on this board. This board does not represent the process for most parents in Fairfax.

The sheer number of "gifted" students in Fairfax, many of whom had to cajole to get into the program only underscores that Fairfax is, at heart, just a two-tier school system. In Arlington, excellence and achievement is expected and realized for all students.

I know several Arlington families who will either send their kids to TJ or go private. They think Yorktown is weak, and that's as good as it gets in Arlington.

So don't pretend this behavior is unique to Fairfax.

THANK YOU! A voice of reason and sanity in the otherwise obsessive wasteland of the VA Public Schools forum.

Both districts are good. I am not sure how one is better than the other.

From what I can see, Arlington offers no comprehensive services for gifted kids. I would hate to be there with my two kids.

That's because you don't have a highly gifted student. Arlington works quite well for regular kids; not so well for highly gifted kids.

Typo... didn't mean to have the "not" in the last sentence.

Whatever.

Everyone wants the best they can get for their children. Everyone wants to be the proud parent of a top tier student. I'm not going after AAP, but I don't blame those who want to apply for it following the rules. I do have a problem with people who freak out when AAP doesn't pan out in the end, but I don't fault anyone for trying.

I'm sure your school system has certain programs that many people want, but not all people can get. It is hard to watch other people get something better and not it is human nature to want it too.
