No. I've been asked this twice by the same guy telling pretty much the same story in the same parking lot about two or three weeks apart.

I would, I have, and would do it again. I don't know if it is a scam but I would rather help someone who needs help than walk away thinking it is a scam and then this person doesn't get there in time to pick up their children or can't get home. I also believe in paying it forward and pray that if I, or anyone I care about, ever needs help, someone will help them.

Someone did this to me the other day.
I did not give them money, but I gave them 2 gallons of gasoline. I paid for it inside the station and let them pump.

Once I accidentally locked myself out of my apartment building in NYC - didn't even have my glasses and before cell phones. Took me a long time to find someone to lend me 25 cents so I could call my roommate. Totally sucked.

similar scam. approached by person who needed metro fare to Silver Spring, told her I would drive her as I was going in that direction (long story about medical procedure, this was near a hospital). She refused the ride. A month later, same woman, same long story.
