The college acceptance process is such and odd/wonderful/awful time for moms, sometimes more so than the kids. My DS1 is a freshman in college an my heart still aches! But I do remember being practically breathless when I opened the mailbox and saw the big envelope from his first choice school.

I received a big, fat envelope in the mail from my stretch school. My father's dream school...for me, of course, right? My mother called him at work to let him know it was there. He picked me up from school (even though we lived a block away) and brought me home where it was sitting (immaculately) on the dining room table. He was literally salivating as I opened it up, silently read it (acceptance letter), and muttered, "Cool" before I dropped it back on the table and basically ran out the door back to track practice.

Needless to say, he framed the letter and it sits on his desk today.

And, yes, I did get talked into going to that school!

Another great story! Thanks for sharing!

Our classrooms had smoked glass doors. During AP English, my mother suddenly appeared outside the classroom. She actually cupped her hand and peered inside!

I raced to the door and literally shoved her out of view. She handed me the envelope (yes, she had opened it) and as I was reading she got around me and proceeded to JUMP UP AND DOWN in front of the classroom door.

I can still hear the laughter from within. So tell your DH he's lucky you have such remarkable restraint.

OP here, the letter was about a partial scholarship award. I'm driving my DS crazy and need to calm down.

OP here, Thanks! It's a little like trying to read tea leaves....fun but probably useless!
The college website states scholarship letters are mailed about 1 month after receiving the acceptance letter...and it's been a little over a month.

So your DS got a separate letter from the school president, in addition to the acceptance letter?

My DS was admitted early decision to UMBC in December. Today he received a large envelope with "Congratulations" on the front from the Office of the President. Do you think this could be a scholarship offer? Or would that come from the Department of Financial Aid?
He is at a school activity until later this evening and this is driving me crazy!
