I have a wonderful MIL. Now my own mother? She's a bitch from hell.

Sat my husband down for a serious conversation about all of my shortcomings. Informed him that she, as his mother, could tell that he was unhappy when I was around. (He was previously unaware of this "fact".) And the worst part is, he thinks she walks on water, so he took her very seriously, and sat ME down for a conversation about all of my shortcomings. Again, none of these complaints were his. He just takes everything she says to be gospel truth. If she said that he looked miserable when I walked into a room, well, he must be miserable. And so it's on me to make a change.

Scheduled father in laws funeral 3 years ago on my birthday. She knew it was my birthday and had other dates to choose from.

Ruined every holiday for me for the first five years of my marriage. There was a last straw event that led to me telling her off in no uncertain terms. Best thing I ever did! She is not at all hard to deal with now. Plus I think she has learned that if she pisses me off she won't see her only grandchild. My husband makes none of the plans so it is on me to set up plans for her to come over, meet us for dinner, etc.

Nothing. I thank God often for my wonderful MIL.

Wrote us a letter criticizing our parenting. Disapproved strongly of the use of time outs. Wondered why we didn't ask her expert advice instead.

We have never truly forgiven her. Never will.

Got stoned at our wedding reception.

Bought a framed picture to replace the one we have above our bed because she felt it didn't match our decor (it really doesn't but I love it and that's why it's there).

That was many years ago. After giving her her only two grandkids, she doesn't mess with me that much anymore.

She passed away before my toddler got to know her and have a real relationship with her.

(I know, not exactly the kind of gripe you were looking for)

She exists. Everything else stems from there.

Feeling bitter and angry over my mother in law this morning, so thought I would start a new thread of MIL gripes!

I love my MIL, don't get me wrong. But there are several small things she does that build up to drive me nuts! Like calling me at work today to tell me that I should drop what I am doing to assist an out of state family member who never returns my calls anyway. And telling me I am obligated to do so because it's her family (not mine). Argh!
