I read somewhere to try clove oil mixed with coconut oil. Magic!! Seriously! My daughter had had molloscum for 2 years and I've tried it all! The beetle juice WILL leave scars. Within 3 days of the clove oil mixture they molloscum wad dead, scabing and turning black.

Just curious-if a child has these, do they continue to go to daycare, or do they stay home since it is communicable? How do you prevent the spread of the virus at home?

It's a highly contagious virus, the longer it's left untreated the more likely it will spread to other body parts & people. I would seek more aggressive treatment and try a new dermatologist.

My daughter had a terrible case on her legs, and we used beetle juice. It was a terrible, painful experience that left her unable to sit for a week. In the end, she is fine and has no scars, but don't do this on the face!

I used the apple cider vinegar treatment on my son. He had a bunch behind his ear. In 10 days they were gone and he was scar free. I was pretty amazed.

We had good luck with apple cider vinegar, too. We put it on cotton balls and applied it to the spots with a bandaid. We left it on over night. it took about 3-7 days to dry up the spots.

I'm the OP of this thread. We took DS to a different dermatologist who said they stopped using the beetlejce in their office and advised us to wait it out.

We waited it out another 4-6 months and the molluscum just disappeared on their own. Second DS got it also and his really spread all over his torso, but actually cleared up faster than the DS that only had the 2 bumps on his face for a very long time.

Older daughter had a ton on her torso that eventually went away on their own (must have been at least a year). Now little daughter has on her face. It's coming on a year. Some have gotten so big that we've been able to remove w tweezers. She keeps getting small ones though (under chin, inside nose, around mouth). I hate them but ped says to wait. I don't think her immune sys is working on them at all. I've read abt apple cider vinegar. Sorry, no advice, just commiserating.

My son had an awful case of mollescum for over a year. After multiple trips to the pediatrician and nothing more than a cream that prevents infection, I got tired of the "wait it out" answers they gave me. I did my homework, and long story short, a nightly bath soaking in 2 cups of apple cider vinegar for the last 3 weeks has all but cleared the sores made more of an improvement than I could hope for.

Another cheap and effective solution - Benzyol Peroxide - the zit cream.

My son had a terrible case of molluscum on his arms, legs and torso. We tried various dermatologist recommended solutions that didn't get rid of them. He'd get a treatment and those would go away and he'd develop another 10-20.

Finally, I tried a home remedy. We put apple cider vinegar (which is very mildly acidic) on the pad of band-aids or cotton balls and put them on the molluscum overnight. We did this for 3-5 days and then took a break for 3 days. We did this until they went away. It didn't leave scars and it was cheap.

My son had a ton of Molluscum bumps all over his torso. We used Zymaderm (bought from amazon) and they cleared up within a few weeks. No scars.

My daughter had molluscum for 1.5 years. We tried multiple treatements at the dermatologist. Finally, the pediatrician recommended retin-a. I think it was .25. It cleared in up in a matter of days and no scars.

My daughter had molluscum on her arm and side for almost a year. My SIL recommended molluscum RX. We ran it by our pediatrician who said it was fine to try, and that some people get results and some don't. Anyway, we tried it, and it worked great...within a week we could see the difference, within a month it was gone with no scars.

My 2.5 year old has had 2 molluscum bumps on his face for a year now. I took him to a derm over the summer who told me that if he treated the ones on his face it might leave a scar. At the time he also had one on his neck and the dr treated the neck one with an antiviral and said that once that one dissapears it will jump start DC's immune system to fight the ones on his face. He also gave me retin a to apply daily to the ones on his face.

The one on his neck did go away but the ones on his face are still there and the retin a did absolutely nothing. And I've notice 2 more pop up under his chin. I'm really hesitant to go back to this same doctor.

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem with molluscum on the face of their DC and what treatment worked and if you have a recomendation for a dermatologist who sees kids this age in the Bethesda area.

thanks
