This happens every fucking day in DC, and no one blinks when a young black male is murdered.

Yet this crap, b/c it occurred in Bethesda, makes national news.

It doesn't happen every day in DC. I agree that there is always a disparity in attention and concern based on a crime victim's race, but this case is much more than that. The sheer brutality of the murder-- struck over 300 times with any and every blunt object (a hammer, a merchandize peg, etc.) that Norwood could get her hands on-- the pleas for mercy overheard by the Apple Store employees-- that's what makes this case different. It's just horrifying, and it doesn't happen every day.

YES! There is justice!

Here's the thing - if Norwood was a (read slowly and carefully) a productive member of society, and not a drain on society - people might have more concern for her awful self. Norwood proved she did not value life, and was therefor worth nothing. Too bad for her. She made her choices, 300 times.

murder is more common among the same race/sex. it makes news when it's interracial and with opposite sex. it's just the way society works.

if it was asian killing latino it would be the same thing. there's nothing about being black here. relax.

Man bites dog. The fact that young black men murder each other is so commonplace that it doesn't make the news doesn't make the eruption of violence in more civilized and proper and valued society less newsworthy. Or less tragic.

Work to make it news when black men murder each other. Then, we can talk.

I was going to ask if there was a possibility for death penalty. Thanks for answering my Q 14:29.

What a shame. If she gets anything less than life without parole the system has failed.

Too bad there is no death sentence in Maryland, what a shame.

She never served the community before, how would it ever occur to her to serve the community now? Because there is one less pretty, white blonde woman? What community do they speak of? Is it judge or jury? Hopefully judge. May Norwood NEVER know peace.

Its up to Judge Greenberg to sentence. Thats why a load of witness impact statements were sent in for him to read. I am not sure when it is taking place today but I know Jayna's family will be there to read their statements.

Such a tragedy in so many ways. I hope that Ms. Norwood gets the maximum sentence of life without parole. Although it will never bring Jayna back to her family or provide closure, atleast justice will have been served. I read some of the witness impact statements and they are incredible.

May peace be with you forever.
