for catholic school mom - i think the scores are ok but agree that the 16 gbrs will be discounted from a private school. in the bubble of your school 128 cogat must be very advanced, but that's not even the cutoff score. so imagine how advanced all the other children above the cutoff are. the math at aap is usually the toughest part for kids. yours sounds like on level 1st grade math. (my first grader in math pullout learned regrouping). you may not realize this but 3rd graders in aap take 4th grade math.

Yup, I agree that the test scores will carry more weight than non-FCPS GBRS in your child's case, and with below-pool scores you should check your self confidence at the door. This is a numbers game, pure and simple, and the committee will not be swayed by any touchy feely affirmations that your child "is very advanced on things that can't be taught."

Since your child did not hit the benchmark, I am not so sure he/she would get in. Not sure whether they rate private school teacher GBRS as heavily as the ones from FCPS teachers. You would need to speak with other private school parents. They do go fast in math in a level IV class and the children do a lot of independent learning.

Well, I'm pretty sure the screening committee takes the "perfect" GBRS score from a private school with a grain of salt, esp. when paired with below-pool scores, so if I were you, I'd be prepared to appeal.

Your child would likelyget in (especially with the private school GBRS inflation), but unless you supplement heavily in math, he's going to have trouble. On day 1 of 3rd grade AAP, he should know his multiplication and division tables cold.

Child has solid report cards for the past year and a half with top marks in all subjects.
Tested Cogat/NNAT at GW.
Private catholic school child being taught way behind public, I think, so have been supplementing myself at home. Example of what is being taught at current school: 2nd grade student just started on subtraction two weeks ago - drilling 5 minus 1; 7 minus 1; 4 minus zero. Spent the beginnig of the year until now on single digit adding (drilling.)
We have excellent recommendation letters from teachers and current school principal.
Child is utterly bored, thinks schoolwork and homework is a joke. It takes our child less than two minutes to complete homework each evening.
Thinking of private testing if I have to appeal.
Love the current school, families, family values, teachers, child's peers, despise the academics.
Was told by GW tester that child is very advanced on things that cannot be taught. On subjects child can be taught, child is testing high average. Was recommended that I pull child from the school or do a lot of private supplementing in math and other subjects. Was told we are doing our child a disservice by keeping child in current catholic school, and especially by not supplementing privately because the score would have been much higher had we done so.

We have no idea if our child will be accepted into the AA Program. Any insight/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Nice try, OP. I started the old "JUST THE SCORES" thread last year, and learned the unfortunate truth that you have to deal with all the snotty snarks . . . no such thing as a clean thread on this topic.

Maybe op just wants to see other people's kids scores. I don't see what difference it makes. Based on other threads, people seem to enjoy posting their kids scores.

Why??? Just a random sample of test scores? It doesn't tell you anything about odds of being found eligible for AAP.

Please post 2012 AAP screening scores only, 2nd grade cogat and 1st grade NNAT
