It's not all about test scores. Consider how your kid would do in the program. Does he absolutely love to learn? Does he learn quickly and without the need for repetition? Is he working above grade level in math and reading?

It's a great program when the kid is the right fit, but it can be a struggle for a kid who isn't.

With a.128, I wpuld definetely parent refer. Be prepared to pay for a WISC if you need to appeal. Good luck!

Were any of the individual scores on the CogAt above 132? I thought that that would count to get in the pool too. At any rate, those are really great and consistent scores and you should definitely do the parent referral. The purpose of the pool is to catch students who might not otherwise be identified, but that doesn't mean that someone in the pool with 1 pt higher on either of those stands a better chance because of all theother factors involved..

Kids get accepted with all kinds of scores and GBRS numbers!

Those are great scores, and I think your kid stands a better shot than someone who got a 140 on one and a 120 on the other would. Submit the referral and some relevent pieces of work. I have heard that they like to see a writing sample. If you submit anything from years prior, make sure to date it because something that is remarkable for a kindergartener wouldn't necessarily be so for a 2nd grader. And remember to submit 2 copies of everything. Good luck!

My dc had composite scores that were below the 132 benchmark - 131 for both the NNAT and CoGAT. I am interested in pursuing this but I would love to hear from someone else whose child didn't make the pool but applied anyway. Does all the work submitted need to be from the current school year? Any other words of wisdom? We don't have enough time to have her tested (WISC or Stanford Binet) to meet the Feb. 3rd deadline. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
